An "operation" is each I/O the client believes is pending on the filer including outstanding change notify operations. This value defaults to 50, but clients such as Windows Terminal Server or IISmay require that this number to be increased to avoid errors and performancedelay. The approved values for this parameter are 126, 253, and 1124. Themost accurate way to determine which number to use is to measure the RedirectorCurrentCommands statistic on the client with NT perfmon and to increase the numberuntil Current Commands does not hit the negotiated limit. For more informationsee Microsoft Knowledge Base articles Q191370 and Q232890. This number should only be changed while cifs is terminated. Only use the approved values to avoid Q232890. PrefDC IF I am not wrong, cifs set up should connect the preferred domain controller automatically and prefdc is a kind of legacy function and is not required to specify DC servers. Do we have to specify prefdc even if so? 2. DC not synced? Can you provide what to check from DC side in detail? We need to speak with our DC support. Also can you explain why this causes the access issue? I issued wcc -s to the share I use but the result was the same as ID kajimk. 3.pseudo root "/" Then how can we create share back of "C"? We do not take on passengers. Leave us, human. We are tired of your threats. You. I do not wish to speak with you. Your threats are tiresome. Insulted You do not concern me, human. I m desperate. I need to get to your city, to your library. I m looking for someone. Screw pride, I really need to get to the Dark People s library There are no humans in the city. Rarely is anyone allowed to visit our forest. Not a human. Someone else. The White of the Draic Kin. I know of no such creature. You should look elsewhere. How can I prove that I m what you call a Wave? It is not something you can prove. It is something you are. And you are not a Wave. Then why did one of your people tell me I was? If you ever were a Wave, it is no longer in you. I see only death in your eyes, human. You collect books, isn t that right? We collect all that is written and recorded. Books, scrolls, stones, crystals - history, poetry, journals, stories. From the first word to, some day, the last. Until our collection is complete, we will continue to travel, to trade, and to collect. I guess the last existing copy of a rare book would be pretty important to you. It would be. Unless we already possess it. You don t. Not this one. Farewell to my Wizardin Days , by Roper F. Klacks. I will speak with my brothers at the library. This is a book we do not have. We need it for our library. Will you part with it? For a price. I need to get to your city. Show me the book, so that I can see for myself. Very well, human. This book is of value to us. We will grant you passage on our Shadowship. Thank you. When do we leave? Very soon. We await only the last deliveries from our suppliers. Step aboard. If we wish to be invisible, we can be. If we wish to be forgotten, we will be. I forgot what he told me about the Dark People s library Roper Klacks, at your service! You said something about being an author? Author Didn t Klacks mention something about becoming an author? A published one! I wrote my memoirs a few years ago. Farewell to My Wizardin Days , by Roper F. Klacks. What s the F stand for? Nothing. It just looked better on the cover. Anyway, as it turned out, the first and only print run had a slight...problem. A small charm made its way onto page one hundred and eight. When readers got to that page, the book, as misfortune would have it, exploded. And you had nothing to do with that? Me? Absolutely not! I ve been aquitted of all charges, and every single lawsuit has been dismissed in the magical court. I m quite innocent. It does mean, however, that only one copy of Farewell to My Wizardin Days , by Roper F. Klacks exists. And that would be mine. I ve decharmed it, and page one hundred and eight is quite safe to read now, if you re interested. Not really, no. Would you be interested in parting with that book of yours? Oh, I don t know. It s the last remaining copy, you know. All the other copies spontaneously combusted. I m aware of that. But I need something to get me passage on that Shadowship down in Shady Quay. You believe my book would help with that? Maybe. The Dark People collect books, and yours is quite unique, isn t that so? It is. It is. Wouldn t you consider it an honour to have your first published novel become a part of the greatest library in Arcadia? Hmm. I would. I would indeed! Wait, I have it right here. I carry it with me always. Never again shall I glance upon the Top Ten Reasons Why You Should Not Build A Flying Castle on page forty-two, and smile knowingly... But think about it. Thousands of people will get to enjoy your...unique outlook on life. Your book will be part of something much, much greater. You re right. Of course you re right. Go on, take it away, or I shall become emotional. And when a wizard weeps, the whole world weeps with him. The humanity. The humanity! Book Klacks book is quite literally one of a kind... There you go. Treat it with care. Don t let it get wet. Don t feed it red meat. I need to visit their library. Ahem. Anyway, as luck would have it, there s a Shadowship docked down in the harbour right now. I m sure they ll let the famous April Rye-br― And for the love of the Balance, do not hold it upside down when there s a full moon! You re welcome. Look, we may not have much time, so let s get out of here before anyone shows up. Okay. Where are we going? Uh... I haven t thought that far. Yet. I mean, we can try and fight our way out, but I m not sure how good you are with a staff. Not very. We ll have to find some other way out. No time for chitchat, Zoë. We need to find a way out. Talk to April Stop wasting time, and help me find a way out of here. We need to find a way out. Now. Help me push this crate. It s a myrshnik-eat-myrshnik world, baby. Baby? Okay. I ll try my best. Run along, deliver your sandwich. Are you still here? I wasn t practising anything. I just...just landed in a very inconvenient spot. Three soldiers saw you materialise out of thin air in the middle of the marketplace. If you re not a witch, then how did you do that? Someone else sent me here to Arc― I mean, to Marcuria. I m from the...the south. I m not a spy, and I m not a witch. I see. I believe you. I will speak with the warden, and maybe he will let you go. That is all I can do. You re just going to leave me here? This is not my jurisdiction. I m sorry. And here in Friar s Keep, we follow the laws. To the letter. I m afraid I can t release her simply because you think she s innocent. I shall bring this matter to the tower s attention. I am quite sure you have more pressing matters to attend to than to stay here in the Keep all day. Feel free to show yourself out the door. Shouldn t you be inside the prison making a sandwich delivery? Good idea. Grab me one of her famous roasted gipa wraps while you re at it, will you? Extra sauce, no pickles, onions, or bthur ambi rr, please. No. Go get that sandwich from Benrime, April! Zoë s waiting! I ll wait for you here while you get the potions. I m a good waiter. It is curious. We share a common memory, and our thoughts are as one. He should have known. That s fine. I m here now. So this is your fabled city? It s stunning. I will take you to the library. Come with me. Stay close. Come. We are almost there. I know they re running short of warm clothes over in Snapjaw s Cove, Jiran. We need to send a boat over there with coats, shoes, and blankets. What―? 何だ―? It will find you! 奴に見つかるぞ! ...God. What...is that? What...? …なんてことだ。あれは…何だ? 何なんだ…? No... No. No! やめろ…よせ。来るな! The Undreaming... アンドリーミングだ…。 Am I dead? Because the undreaming is unchained. I don t know what that means, but it doesn t sound good. So where do I begin? You re here to tell me a story, Zoë. That s fine. Okay... Where... Where am I? It doesn t feel like a dream. どこだ…。ここはどこなんだ? 夢とは思えないが。 I should be freezing, but I don t feel cold at all. Actually, I don t feel anything. This all looks so...familiar. The visions. This is the place from my visions. This place...again. It feels different this time. You must save her. I don t― Who are you? What are you? You must save her, Zoë. Please! But I don t know what to do! She s fine. She doesn t need to be saved. Wait, what are you doing? Go! Faith wants me to come inside. I found her. I found April Ryan, but― I m not... I m not stopping. But I really don t know what to― Save her. Save her! I know. I see. What are you playing? A game. Really? Can I play, too? Maybe. Okay. Do you remember your mother? No. I don t know. I don t want to talk about that. Let s talk about something else. Sometimes we just have to have... And I can promise you that I ll stay here as long as you need me to. I m getting sleepy, Zoë. It s okay, sweetie. You can go to sleep. I m getting cold, too. Come here. Better? Yes... Will you stay with me? As long as you need me to, Faith. Even when I m sleeping? Even when you re sleeping. I promise. Okay. Good night, Zoë. Good night, big sister. Good night, little sister. Goodbye, Faith... Get away from there! That exhibit is very expensive! It s not meant to be touched! Stop. Stop! Freedom! Gojira! Come here! Oh no! I m going to get fired... You should do a better job of keeping your grandson in check, ma am! Do you want some gum? Yes! Only...only I m not supposed to take candy from strangers. Or talk to strangers. Or look at strangers. It s not really candy. It s gum. Not a big talker, are you? Or maybe you re just shy? Hey, any chance you could help me out? You see, I need to distract that guard. No? Nothing? Not up for any more mischief today? Pity. Are you sure you don t want to help me distract the guard? It ll be fun. Hello again. Still nothing? Okay. Mmmmnnngg... Uh...really? Mmmnnngg... Okay! How s the gum? Really good, thank you! Enjoying your gum? Yes! Good. Maybe you can help me with something in return? What? I need you to distract the guard. Can you do that? Mmm...maybe? But Obaasan will be very, very upset. Again. Please? It s for a really good purpose. I promise. And it ll be fun. Hmm. Are you really a grown-up? I am. Because I m only supposed to listen to grown-ups. Okay, I ll help you. Watch this. Thank you for the gum! No? Okay. Hey! Hey, you! I told you already. No bathroom. Right. Sorry. Enjoy your stay at the WATIcorp museum, ma am. The next time, I m calling security. Didn t I warn you? Stay right there, security s on its way. But― Stay there. Don t move! She s right here! Careful, Dad... That is not him... ―and finally, today s the day everyone s been waiting for. Isn t that right, Ryan? That s right, Diane! It s been a closely guarded secret for months, but today, WATIcorp finally unveils its hotly anticipated new product Fans have been lining up in front of stores for weeks in preparation for what some are now calling...the single greatest event in recorded history. Wow! If you didn t have to be here this morning, Ryan, I m sure you d be out there lining up with the rest of them. (Laughs) You betcha, Diane! Wire rumours have it that Dreamtime will allow people to dream lucid dreams about anything they want. Isn t that something, Ryan? Modern technology. You gotta love it. You just gotta love it, Diane... WATIcorp has yet to reveal what Dreamtime is all about, except that it s destined to change the face of entertainment...forever. Hello, old friend. ...what are you...doing here? Time is a circle. It will not end here. You are needed. Take my hand, Brian. The future awaits us. I have a small problem with the Dark People. Dark People Insulting the Dark People might not have been such a good idea Hmm? I went and insulted that Shadowguide down in Shady Quay, and now he won t speak with me. Touchy lot, those Dark People. Easily insulted. Back when I was evil, I tried to trap one of them in stone. Not the best idea I ve ever had... If you have something they want, I m quite sure they will help you out. But they re usually quite pragmatic. All they care about is collecting rare books for that library of theirs. What did you say I should do to win over that Shadowguide? Well, I m no expert on the Dark People, but I do know that they collect rare books. Sam? Sam, is that you? You must help me. There s only darkness. They stole my eyes and my ears. They took the world away from me! There s nothing left. Nothing... Do you hear me? Are you there? I need my senses back. Answer me. Answer me! Pets? Pets, what are you― (Screams) Papa can t hear you, and he can t talk to you. Pets? She, uh, she even smiled at me when I went in there this afternoon to give her the injection. She didn t say much...but Faith s always been a quiet girl. Anyway. She really needs to be in a proper medical facility. But, unfortunately, that does not appear to be an option. HQ doesn t want the subject to be moved. I...I really wish there was something I could do. The, the subject... I just hope she doesn t have to die here. Faith is... She s just a child. And I feel responsible. Partly responsible. Obviously, we re just doing our jobs, but...still. Okay. Okay. Okay, we re back now. We re...we re good. That was weird. For a second I thought I saw... I think she s dead. Faith s dead. The dosage... I think we, uh, we... I think she s dead. I m going home now. Dr Grondal is taking over my next shift. I need to...to rest. To sleep. I haven t slept in... Anyway. The...the subject is very ill. We just gave her a very large injection of the new Morpheus, as per HQ s brief, but she s...not responding. Shit. Oh, shit. I think we... I think we just lost her. We just lost her. I m not getting any...any readings here. She s flatlined. Can you please...just... Please, please go check on her. I think she s...she s dead now. I think she just passed away. Go! I don t plan on saying anything to anyone - about the experiments, about the lab, about...what happened. But I am leaving this crystal behind. She deserves better than that. She deserves to be remembered. She was a person. A girl. This is Dr Jeanine Park. That s it. I won t let them simply...wash their hands of her, like she was never here. Like she never existed. Faith... The subject would have to be...terminated. Granted, Jiva created her for this purpose, and it s not like she s ever had a normal life, but still... At any rate, it s not like we have a choice. We re simply following orders. And WATI HQ is adamant that we keep pushing forward. There s something seriously wrong. I think the dosage... I don t, uh, I don t think she ll last― That s it. I think something happened. I m not sure what happened, but something did happen. Her name was Faith. I can t believe what they did to her. It s just...horrible. And...she said Jiva . "Jiva created her". What does that mean? Did Jiva create Faith? I need to get back to Casablanca. Your devotion to your faith and your prowess with a blade should never be confused. Religion and war mix as well as dry grass and a flaming torch. How can that be? I hold my sword in the name of my faith, and my faith is the shield that protects me from harm. They are like two rings, intertwined. Or like a pair of snakes eating each others tails. Don t be blinded by rhetoric, Kian. I ve taught you better than that. But the Mission, Garmon― I ll see you when you get back. You can tell me all about the Eastlanders, and how you rescued their maidens from a life of sin! May you walk with the Goddess, Kian. Are you men or are you boys? Fight with some dignity! I have never seen such a sorry display of swordsmanship in my long life. Ha! Your enemies will tremble before you! What do you want, a pat on your rump? You did well, but you can do even better! You look like two lovers out for a stroll in the moonlight! Fight, don t dance! To trainees Lift that arm! Goddess have mercy, there s no hope for any of you... I would not have any of you watch my back in a temple, let alone on a battlefield! When the day comes you have to fight a real enemy, may the Goddess take your souls swiftly. Thanks ever so much for leaving me hanging dry on that mountain path... Eight! Bloody! Years! Ago! Oh, for crying out loud! Maybe he was simply confused. Maybe his eyes were blinded. Maybe... By the way, I like what you ve done with the place. You drink ice ale? I thought you didn t like alcohol. I ve acquired a taste for it. And I like being drunk and not having to take responsibility for my actions. That s always a plus... From the WATI Entertainment System to the Watilla - and beyond - WATIcorp has provided mankind with love, happiness, and billions of hours of entertainment. Without WATIcorp, this would be just another dreary industrial town. I wonder what Project Alchera is all about. I hope it s some sort of sex robot. I ve been waiting for an excuse to dump my wife. Not that there s anything wrong with WATIcorp, but I want to work in a more...serious minded corporation. Robot toys and entertainment consoles are all very well and good, but they won t exactly change the world, will they? Oh... Hello, Zoë. Hey, you re good as new. How do you feel? I feel the same as always. Why? It was destined to be the biggest thing in history, and it was supposed to go on the market in a few months from now. We figured that, sooner or later, the Static would be traced back to WATIcorp, and then we d be out of a job. Besides, it was getting serious. People were dying. We discovered the truth behind Project Alchera, behind DreamNet, behind the Dreamers. WATIcorp can extract private and personal information about anyone who s ever been connected to a Dreamer. And now someone s hacking into it. It s too dangerous. You could get caught. Or worse. If you knew what I ve been through these past few days, you wouldn t say that. Whatever it is you need me to do, I ll do it. Are you sure? Damien...we don t have a choice. This is what Reza was doing. He was taking a stand. He was risking his life to expose WATIcorp. I can t run away from this one. I have to do this. For Reza...for everyone. For myself. I have to stay here. This is the only place I can access the system from. You, on the other hand... Just tell me what we re doing. I m ready. You re going on a long hike into the WATI caves... From the time I open this door, you have thirty minutes to make it down to minus fifty-eight. That shouldn t be too hard. At least you don t have to go up. Yet. I m fit. You definitely look it. Okay, one moment. Got disguise Don t got disguise Sounds insane, I know, but it s been a crazy day, and we gotta check. So nothing? Sorry. I ve been at my console all day, and I haven t seen anyone. All right. Thanks, Mr Cavanaugh. You have a good evening now. I m sorry to disturb you, sir, but have you seen anyone on this floor in the last hour or so? Shit, someone s coming. You need to hide, quickly! Sounds like you ve really thought this one through. Okay, if you re sure― That was close. Do you have any idea what he was talking about? Unfortunately...yes. I m not proud of what I did, but it s not like I had much choice. Jesus. I guess you do know how to take care of yourself. And it sounds like you ve thought this one through. Okay, if you re sure― Well, you ve definitely arrived in the nick of time. If we re doing this, we have to do it now. Are you serious? Surprise attack Someone in administration got knocked out by a young woman. Looks like she made her way into the building through the museum. Yeah. Chief of security s furious. It s been a crazy day, I tell you. So nothing? A woman from administration was knocked out cold by someone. She didn t see who did it, but she got a nasty bruise. It s been a crazy day. Maybe she just slipped and fell, but we gotta check. So nothing? I m sure. All right, so in order to get into the Dreamcore itself, you need to find a way into the offices surrounding the core room. They ll be preoccupied, however, so you should be able to sneak past them. If they spot you, they ll trigger the alarm, and you ll be fried. Literally. We need to get the worm into the Dreamcore. Once that s done, I can start pulling information from the core to my console. I ll cut the alarm to the fire exit at the agreed time, so be there. If anything should go wrong, you ll need to find another way out...on your own. And you re with me. We ll head the other way and regroup on the other side. Halt! Hey, what the hell are you doing here? Stop! Five, four, three, two, one. After several unfortunate casualties - of which WATIcorp has been completely absolved - a smaller and lighter version was put into production. The BunnyBot has remained one of WATIcorp s most popular toybots, and it s still being sold to happy children and concerned adults across the world today. Designed by Dr Alvin Peats himself and released in 2104, it became an immediate best-seller. This particular design lasted for almost twenty years. RoBoy is known for his winning personality, his helpful attitude, and his dogged persistence. He is also known for being the first robot with ADHD. BunnyBot Mark I is risen! It might be able to carry me down to the street...but it d be a real leap of faith. It s a long way down... Looks like a broomstick. Far He must be very important to you. Reza, I mean. And he was just...evil. Sad, pathetic, and hateful. He claimed that we were stealing his senses. I think he was actually afraid of me. From what you told me earlier, it sounds like he s completely dependent on the Wire. The Static must be scaring the hell out of him. If he needs the Wire to see and hear, he s completely lost without it. I just don t feel safe anymore. He knew who I was, he s been inside Reza s dreams. He has spies everywhere, cameras, bots... Don t worry, Zoë. He won t find you here, I promise. I ll check around tomorrow, see if I can dig up any information on Peats. They won t be able to do that once they start testing again, however. And that s when I ll signal the worm to― Yeah, I am quite tired. I guess I should find a hotel and figure out what to do next. Thanks for the clothes, Damien. I ll― Um. That didn t come out right. You know what I mean. With any luck, I might be able to get some coordinates. To Arcadia ? I know you don t believe me. I don t even know if I believe it myself, but― It s not that I don t believe you, Zoë. It s just that I know how powerful the Dreamer is. It can make anything seem real. It wasn t a dream. I don t know what it was, but I was there. Somewhere else. Another world. And I need to go back. I didn t want to leave you, but I had no choice. I tried to wake you up, but you...you weren t responding. Zoë, you must leave. Right now. When they discover who planted the worm, they ll send someone to the apartment. You need to be gone. The good news is, before they caught it, the worm did collect enough data for me to get the coordinates we spoke about. I ve sent you the exact coordinates, along with a map. If I manage to get out of here, that s where I ll be heading. If you decide to go there - and I expect you will - be very careful. I ll try and contact you, but...I can t promise anything. The quickest way to St Petersburg is by scramjet. Oh, and there are some warm clothes in the bathroom closet. The intrusion into Dreamcore originated in Russia, just outside St Petersburg. Good luck. I ll...see you soon. I hope. Take care of yourself. You have one new message from... Anonymous. Hey, it s me. Who s this? It s me. Hello? Hi, Liv. Go, go, go! Clear! Get down on the floor! Get down! Don t move! We got one! You re a pretty girl. You look like my daughter. I don t know where she is. I hope she s doing okay... I ve been on Raptures for ten years. I m never getting off that shit. Especially now, there s nothing else to live for. I won t be around much longer. And I don t care. I just wish I could see my daughter again... Just once. You buy something now? Best prices! Guaranteed! Hey! You! Come here! Come buy best merchandise in Venice from the best merchant in Venice! Thanks. All right. Come again. Where s the Victory Hotel again? Over bridge, right, left, right, left. Thank you. I don t plan on staying. Well, you hurry and do what you need to do. Then get out. Quickly. Could you tell me where to find The Fringe again? Come out, come out, wherever you are. No reason. It s good to have you back. Thank you, Zoë. Hi. Hello. Hello, Zoë. Oh. Hello. Was that the only message from Reza you had for me? Message I wonder if Reza left any other messages for me The inn is closed. There ll be no drinking here today, I m afraid. You re interfering with official Azadi business. Move along. Is she asleep? I think she s dreaming now. I ll stay here and watch over her. Maybe when she wakes up, she ll want to play a game with me. What message, Zoë? The message you played earlier. The one from Reza. Don t you remember? No. I don t remember any message. That s weird... I ll talk to you later, Wonkers. Goodbye I should get going Okay, Zoë. I ll be here. See you later. I m sorry I haven t had time to play with you lately. I ve had so much on my mind. Game I feel bad about not having time to play with Wonkers It s okay. I can wait until you have less on your mind. I like having you home again. I missed you when you were gone. You mean when I was in Cape Town? You missed me? Every day. I used to sit in the window and watch for you all day and all night. You re breaking my heart, Wonkers. We need to find you a friend. But you re my friend, Zoë. You re the only friend I need. There s nothing on my schedule today, right? Schedule My schedule for the day should be empty Just the gym. Nothing else. I won t be going to the gym today. I have too much on my mind already. You re sure you don t remember the message you gave me? The one about Reza s notebook? No, Zoë. I don t remember any message. I m sorry. Strange. (Hums) Welcome home, Zoë. I m happy to see you, Zoë. I told you to not touch the exhibits! Why do you persist in torturing me? That s it! I ve had it with you. I m calling security. Come on! Come to Wazza! Shouldn t take long. Ah, yeah. She ll be right. I ll just go have a...sit down. In the meantime, like. You re leaving, one way or the other! Christ, you kick like a bloody mule! Don t be gettin aggro, now. That s what you get, trying to pull a fast one on Wazza! Serves you right for being a bloody nuisance... The rooms are upstairs. What are you still doin here, the rooms are... Wait a minute. You played a trick on me! You re not here for the rooms! How are we doing? Just fine. This ship s a real beauty. She basically flies herself. She just needs a tiny nudge now and again, but other than that... Call me Brian. Please. Brian. When did you come to Arcadia? What? And you re how old exactly? Not a pleasant experience by any measure of things. But I got out, and I made a life for myself in Marcuria. I m never going back...to Stark. And I m fine with that. I ve made peace with my past. Arcadia s my home now. That wasn t the best idea I ever had, but still, here I am, in good health and with all my limbs intact. I shouldn t complain. Still feeling restless, Ms Castillo? Sort of. I guess that s understandable, being cooped up like this. I dunno, I started freaking out. So I went on a journey of inner discovery. It s a douche for the soul. Read, eat, read, sleep, read, go to the bathroom and read at the same time... It s really very, very dull. And she was a real trooper. Saved the world and all. You don t see a lot of people doing that these days. Fortunately, she decided to take it out on the Azadi. I tried looking for her, but after a while I gave up. I got the distinct feeling she didn t want me around anyway. So I left to begin a new life. So, hey, if we hit April with a really big frying pan, she ll come to her senses, right? Zoë? Dreamtime. But WATIcorp had other plans. How can I help Faith? She s already dead, isn t she? Yes. And no. I can t explain it, but you ve seen it for yourself, Zoë. She s in the networks, in DreamNet, on the Wire... Whether it s her, her memories, her soul ...I don t know. It s not for me to theorise. The fact is that a part of her is inside the networks, inside Dreamcore. And she s suffering. But you can help her, Zoë. If that s not accountability, I don t know what is. She died while she was inside DreamNet, dreaming a very, very powerful dream. Maybe she s still in that dream, and that s what s spreading across the Wire. Whatever the answer, it doesn t matter. The fact is that Faith is in there somehow, inside DreamNet, inside Eingana, and she needs to leave. You really are a very beautiful girl, so like your father. I never thought I d see you again. And I wish it didn t have to end like this. She is. You should. Maybe... I would like that very much. Cha...Chavez... No unknown or illegal biological or artificial entities detected. Subject is cleared for entry into core room. The core is under lockdown. Please proceed to the nearest elevator to vacate the premises. Lockdown is in effect. All non-essential personnel must vacate the core immediately. Please proceed to the nearest elevator. The core room is entering lockdown. Please step away from all entrances. This is your final warning. All non-essential personnel must proceed to the nearest elevator, and report to their assigned security station immediately. Great. That might come in handy. Excuse me, who are you? Do you live here? I just wish the other residents wouldn t let their guests just wander around the building. I don t know you, do I? If you re trying to sell me something, I m definitely not interested. I m trying to put together enough money to move out of this building. There are some great condos up on Jardin des Roses. It s not that the building is bad...it s just not a very nice place to live. Too much noise, and too many strange people. I know that this is supposed to be a really upscale neighbourhood, but I m just not feeling it. Jardin des Roses must be the nicest street in the city. Great view, great people, great neighbourhood. I love it! Did you know that Jardin des Roses was constructed during phase four of the Casablancan terrain reconstruction? I know everything there is to know about this street. I guess you could call me a Jardin des Roses geek - or a Jardeek , as I like to call it. Stop bothering me. Leave me alone. Jesus Christ, what s your problem? I m always on the run. I always got stuff to do. Like right now, there s stuff I should be doing. Gotta run. Some of us got stuff that needs doing, you know. I have to admit that I get kinda psyched out when strangers just come up and start talking to me in the middle of the street. Don t you find it sort of strange that I m talking to you, even though you haven t said a word to me? You know, this whole thing is starting to seriously psyche me out. I m leaving. I couldn t care less about the Static. It just shows that we should learn to live without technology and the Wire. Also, eating meat is cannibalism. I believe that the animals are our brothers and sisters, and eating cow is like eating...your sister. Or brother. Why not eat humans instead? It s just as bad. If we all start eating tofu and seaweed, the world will be a better place. And I hope the Static kills the Wire. Then we ll all be free and happy. Zoë Castillo, right? Friend of Carlita s? I see you at the coffee shop all the time. We should all hang out some time. The next time I see you at Moca Loco, I ll buy you a latte. Deal? See you around, Zoë! Hmm, I should be watching my weight. My wife s started complaining. What do you think is going to happen? I m very concerned. The Static scares me. I m never leaving Casablanca...not unless I find something better. What s up? Why so gloomy? It s a beautiful day! Life can t possibly get any better than this!

How companies become platform leaders”, MIT Sloan management review. vol.49, no.2, pp. 28--35. (2008) abstract memo These markets require distinctive com- petitive strategies because the products are parts of systems that combine core components made by one company with complements usually made by a variety of compa- nies. The busi- ness challenges include either making key complements or introducing incentives for third-party companies to create the complementary innovations necessary to build market momentum and defeat competing platforms. Our strategic recommendations consist of two basic approaches. One strategy, “coring,” addresses the challenges of creating a new platform where one has not existed before. “Coring” is the set of activities a company can use to identify or design an element (a technology, a product or a service) and make this element fundamental to a technological system as well as to a market. The platform leader must create economic incentives for ecosys- tem members to invest in creating complementary innovations and to keep doing so over time. In addition, platform-leader wannabes need to protect their ability to profit financially from their innovations, just as any innovator company should. The balancing act — protecting one’s sources of profit while enabling complementors to make an adequate profit and protect their own proprietary knowledge — is perhaps the greatest challenge to platform leadership. example1 Google s search technology make browser venders to implement their service to toolbar example2 Qualcomm s CDMA technology 3 EMC s WideSky Coring Strategic Option How to create a new platform where none existed before Technology Actions to Consider • Solve an essential “system” problem • Facilitate external companies’ provision of add-ons • Keep intellectual property closed on the innards of your technology • Maintain strong interdependencies between platform and complements Business Actions to Consider • Solve an essential business problem for many industry players • Create and preserve complementors’ incentives to contribute and innovate • Protect your main source of revenue and profit • Maintain high switching costs to competing platforms The second strategy, “tipping,” tackles the problem of how to win platform wars by building market momentum.1 For a dom- inant standard and a platform leader to emerge from such standards wars, the markets have to “tip” in favor of a particular technology standard or platform embodying that standard. “Tip- ping” is the set of activities or strategic moves that companies can use to shape market dynamics and win a platform war when at least two platform candidates compete. com- panies should try to gain control over an installed base, broadly license their intellectual property and facilitate partner invest- ments in complementary innovation. see this reference @book{ShapiroVarian1999information, title={{Information rules a strategic guide to the network economy}}, author={Shapiro, C. and Varian, H.R.}, year={1999}, publisher={Harvard Business School Press} } Platform-leader wannabes should also invest in building brand equity as well as manufac- turing, distribution or service capabilities to signal support of the platform. Pricing is another useful strategic weapon,,,, At the opposite extreme, trying to stimulate demand through low or zero pricing for all or part of a platform system can de-stroy the business model for complementors. But there is another powerful way to accomplish tipping “tip- ping across markets,” which others have called “platform envelopment.”10 Tipping across markets occurs when a company crosses over the boundary of its existing market to absorb techni- cal features from an adjacent market and bundle them to extend the company’s platform. see this reference @article{EisenmannEtAl2006strategies, title={{Strategies for two-sided markets}}, author={Eisenmann, T. and Parker, G. and Van Alstyne, M.W.}, journal={Harvard business review}, volume={84}, number={10}, pages={92}, year={2006} } cases Linux for servers, Internet Explorer Tipping Strategic Option How to win platform wars by building market momentum Technology Actions to Consider • Try to develop unique, compelling features that are hard to imitate and that attract users • Tip across markets absorb and bundle technical features from an adjacent market Business Actions to Consider • Provide more incentives for complemen- tors than your competitors do • Rally competitors to form a coalition • Consider pricing or subsidy mechanisms that attract users to the platform There is an important difference between a product and an industry platform. this paper is written about "industry platform" examples; microsoft vs Apple s machintosh, video game consoles because Apple did not open the Mac’s architecture and software to third-party complementors and licensees. We believe that coring is a possible option for any company because technology and architectural leadership do not directly depend on the size of the company. no for web application switching cost of web app is much less than OS or hardware, because it can be used only by accessing certain URI. cited as {Cusumano2010staying Annabelle Gawer and I considered this issue in a recent article and conclueded that, for a product or component technology to have platform potential it should satisfy two conditions. GawerCusumano2008companies First, the product or technology should perform at least one essential function as part of a "system", like the scanning mechanism and playback format in a home video recorder, or the operating software and microprocessor hardware in a personal computer. The function is esencial if it solves a critical system-related problem for the industry, such as how to encode video signals or control the operations of a personal computer or a smartphone. Second, the product or technology should be relatively easy for other companies to connect to with their own products, components, or services in order to improve or expand the functionality of the overall platform system, for both intended and unexpected uses.

A simple sword of ordinary appearance, this blade was once not unlike other swords. After it was worn and wielded by the Grand Censor of Ermor who used it to mete out his depraved justice, it acquired considerable power from the innumerable innocents that died on its blade. The residue of these injustices residing in the blade was enhanced during the cataclysmic fall of Ermor, when it absorbed considerable amounts of unholy energy. The sword will now increase the holy might of its wielder and will strike anyone it hits with the rot of Hell. It also enables the owner to protect his undead minions from banishment.

Izetta The Last Witch 1. Beginning of the War A little girl and a dog were running in a forest. Sunlight was filtering through leaves. Finé Hey! You're doing great, Dorothée! I'm gonna bet you can beat the cabin! Dorothée Bow! Finé Ha ha ha...Huh? The girl, Finé, noticed some lights, firefly-like objects flew in the air. She stopped to see where they were going. The dog stopped, and turned to the girl, wondering. Dorothée Huf huf...Wow? Finé Dorothée...those lights... Dorothée Wow! Finé er...huh?! The other lights came again, went through near her. The girl decided to chase those lights. The number of the lights increased while she followed, they seemed to be gathered at some point. The girl heard someone singing a song at the end of the forest. Izetta La-la la la.... There was another girl, floating mid-air above a lake. She sat on a log of wood, wearing red robe, the color matched her short hair. Surrounding lights around her were so bright, it made a strong contrast from the other scenery, she was as if playing with stars in the night sky. Finé mesmerized by the scenery, had her breath taken away. Finé Aah... Hermann Excuse me, Lady Finé. Finé Eh? One of the two guards' notice to Finé, woke her up. She was on the seat of the running train. Hermann We may have a problem here. A steam locomotive was running through the foot of Alpine mountains. It gushed out a massive amount of smoke, rung once its high-pitched steam whistle. Finé What is it? Tobias Some Germanians. Finé An inspection? Two military men barged into the car where Finé sat at. They had a monochrome picture of Finé's, inspecting passengers one by one. Passenger(Woman A) Um... Passenger(Man A) We're in neutral territory. You can't do this. Germanian Soldier A ... Passenger(Man B) Damn, Germanian soldiers... Passenger(Woman B) What's become a Westrian government? Finé and her two guards decided to leave the car, and stood from their seat. One of the soldiers noticed them. Germanian Soldier A Hmm? You there! Come back! ...Stop them! Finé's party began to run. Germanian soldiers drew their guns while they pursued her. To hinder the pursuers, Tobias, younger one of Finé's guards, opened all the doors of class A rooms while he escaped from Germanian soldiers. Passenger(Woman C) Eek! Passenger(Man C) What's this?! Tobias Apologies! Passenger(Man D) Hey?! Germanian Soldier Move it! Passenger(Man) What do you think you are doing?! It's the A class compartment! Two men sat in the room one of the A class compartment. The old one was reading a newspaper, while younger one silently observed the outside commotion on his seat. Berkman It seems troubles on foot... Rickert I'll take a look. Rickert stood, opened the compartment door. A soldier slummed into the door and shouted to Rickert. Germanian Soldier A Ugh! Step aside! Rickert ...Secret. What's happening? And, we're the Special Unit. Rickert showed something in his jacket. Then the soldier changed his attitude, recognized Rickert as his higher ranking officer. Germanian Soldier A Sieg Reich! I apologize we interrupted, but, you see... Rickert The Princess of Eylstadt? Germanian Soldier A Yes. We'd pursued to someone matching the description right now. Berkman I commend your dedication, gentlemen. But I don't appreciate you causing trouble on a Westrian train in a neutral country. Rickert That's right, Major. Germanian Soldier A I'm terribly sorry. Don't worry. We'll apprehend her quickly. Berkman See that you do. Off you go. Germanian Soldier A Sir! Soldiers left from the compartment to continue pursuing the Princess. Rickert So, Princess Ortfiné is here. Why would the heir to the Archduke's throne leave her homeland and time like this? ...Ah, is she seeking an asylum in Westria? Berkman Doubt for. The Archduke would never run away. That would she. Thar family would rather be shot dead than leave their country. So the question is, "Why would the Princess from small nation that lives in fear of Germanian invasion, make a personal visit to a neutral territory?" Rickert ...She must be appearing to one of the allied nations. Berkman That would be my guess. Most likely, Britannia. Finé and her companions were hiding at the end of the passageway, one Germanian sentry stood at the other end. Hermann peeked for the sentry and shook his head to notice to the Princess it's no good. Then Finé turned back to the exit door of the train, pointed it silently. The train was running at full speed, however, they decided their way for escape was only outside of the car. First Tobias, then Finé and Hermann climbed up on the train roof. Finé I cannot miss my meeting with Britannian ambassador tomorrow. I have to make it Albringen. Even if it's the last thing I do, we must convince the allies to take action and help save our country! They jumped over the joint between the cars, moving to the tail of the train. Rickert Eylstadt, eh? ...Isn't that the place for the Weiss Hexe legend originated? Perhaps this is fate on our work. Rickert showed cynical smile while he spoke to his superior. They were still sitting at their compartment. Berkman It's possible. All I know is, if this Princess intents to put up a fight. Better end quickly. From behind Finé and her guards, gunshots attacked them. The Germanian soldiers chased them and they also climbed on the roof. Train suddenly slowed its speed, and Finé was about to fall from the train roof, but Hermann caught Finé. Tobias fought back with his gun to their opponent. Tobias Protect the Princess! Hermann Just hold on! I'm pulling you up now! The princess watched at the side of the train car, there was an window. Finé No, wait! Tobias Princess! We have to move! Finé kicked several times the window. A metal plate covered the window dropped from its frame. Finé We're heading inside! Hermann Huh?! Finé jumped into the car from the window. The was a storage space. Hermann jumped into the room next. Hermann Well, that was intense... Finé was walking around the storage room. Then, she found something, stopped to examine some apparatus. Finé ... A large metal tube. It had a small, circle window on it. Two green lights were ominously blinking at the rear end of the apparatus. Finé wiped its window, had covered with white frost, and tried to peek inside of it. Hermann You're not safe here. Let's go. Finé Strange... Herman Huh? Finé There's...something odd about this. The princess unlocked two latches attached on the apparatus. Some cold air gushed out from inside of it. Herman tried to stop her immediately. Hermann Lady Finé, please! Berkman That's quite enough, Princess. Take your hands off it. Out of nowhere, Berkman appeared in front of Finé, a handgun held in his right hand. Finé Just, what is this coffin? Why is it here? Who's inside? Tell me. Berkman That's top secret information, I fear. And, you've seen too much. Just right before Berkman shot his gun to Finé, Tobias barged in between them. He caught the gunshot. Tobias Ugh! Uhh... Finé Ah! Hermann Lady Finé... Finé This isn't the end... Finé looked around inside the room, gazed at the latch of the train's door a short while, then decided something to do next. The train entered into a tunnel, so the sunlight shuttered completely inside the room. All of them who were in the storeroom lost their vision temporarily. Finé Once we through this tunnel, we'll be over the river. Hermann Hmm? Finé Hermann, grab Tobias for me. Finé leaped to the exit door, and tried to opened it. Fine Ughh...Guh! The door was heavy for her strength. Germanian soldiers, followed and caught up with Berkman shot their pistols to stop Finé, but the sunlight suddenly filled the room again bright hampered soldiers' sight they are just adjusted the darkness of the room. And Finé managed to open the door. Finé We're jumping! Hermann Right! While Germanian soldiers ran, tried to hold them on the spot, Finé and Hermann, held Tobias in his arm, jumped out the door of the running train. Before falling to the downward, Finé could have a glimpse of the apparatus, she said it coffin. They successfully landed on the river. Berkman ...She's every bit a spitfire that they say she is. Germanian Soldier Urm, Major...why exactly is there girl inside this thing? Three Germanian soldiers started to examine the apparatus Finé unlocked its latches beforehand. A girl's sleeping face could be viewed from its window. Berkman Oh, dear, weren't you all listening earlier---the contents of this machine are top secret. Emperor's orders. Hah...Sieg Reich. Bergman raised his gun, then the sound of gunfire heard three times. Tobias was laid down on the riverside. Finé and Hermann sat at the side of him. Town's lights was afloat on the night river. Hermann Tobias! Hang in there, Sargent! Stay with us! Tobias Huu...the Priscess...Is she okay? Hermann Yes, she's fine. Finé I am right here! You are why I'm alive! Tobias It's been...an honor. Please make sure our country remain safe...Princess. Finé You have my word! I'll protect Eylstadt no matter what the cost, even if I have to give my life! Tobias...Ah... Finé noticed a light on Tobias' eyes already lost. Hermann slowly shook his head. Hermann Mm... Finé ...I won't forget your loyalty. You served our people well. Finé took Tobias' hand with both of hers. Narrator September 1st, 1939, on that fateful day, the powerful European dictatorship, known as The Germanian Empire, launched an unexpected invasion of a neighboring nation, Livonia, claiming the country as its own. In response to this unprovoked attack, The Kingdom of Britannia, and The Republic of Thermidor spring into action. Soon, they declared war on Germania. However, they were unable to hold on their own against Germania's blitzkrieg tactics which combined air warfare and tank combat. Even Thermidor, which many viewed as the biggest threat to Germania's expansion, eventually retreat. Now, seemingly unstoppable, Germania has set its sites on other countries, including the tiny alpine state itself, The Duchy of Eylstadt. In the town, at the shower room in a hotel, Finé was taking a shower. And Hermann stayed, sitting outside the door. Finé stood still while contemplating something. A large scar could be seen on her right side. Finé stopped the shower, step out the bathtub, place her both hands on a washstand and began speaking to herself in the mirror. Finé Hah...Now is not the time to shed tears on morn for the fallen. Come on...You can cry all you want after you've complete your duty. ...Nn! To try to her psyche up, Finé clapped her cheeks with her hands, which made Hermann bewildered. Hermann Princess, what was that noise?! Finé Don't worry. I was just getting myself fired up. Were you able to find cloths? Hermann Ah...The innkeeper has prepared the dress for you. And you'll find it laid down on your bed. Finé Please make sure she rewarded handsomely. Even now, this is neutral territory, it's a risk to let me stay here. Hermann As it turns out, the innkeeper was born in Eylstadt. She said it was an honor to help you, and have you stay in her establishment. When Finé returned to her room, she found an elegant, pale blue dress laid on her bed. Finé ...I've been kept alive by the faith of my people, once again... Then, she found a picture hanged on the wall right hand. She approached to it. Finé Weiss Hexe...The White Witch of legend... A black coupé and a track ran through the town. Berkman and Rickert were sitting at the coupé's rear seat. Rickert So, it'll be transported by air? Berkman Indeed. It wasn't opened for very long, but, that doesn't matter. The folks at the workshop think it's dangerous. That's why they want it sent to the Imperial Capitol for inspection, as quickly as we can get it there. In the track's cargo, the apparatus, Finé once opened its closed latch, laid. Rickert Do you really believe it's possible that thing inside was able to wipe out an entire company by itself? Berkman I couldn't say. But, his Majesty seems to be a rather big fan of the Weiss Hexe legend, so it's our job to investigate it. Rickert Hmm... Berkman And besides, if it does end up being true, it'll make one hell of a good story, won't it? Singer O zittre nicht, mein lieber Sohn... Opera house, a female singer singing a part of "Die Zauberflöte" by Mozart. Load Redford was in a box seat on the upper floor, tapping his index finger along to the rhythm. Finé I hope I'm not interrupting your evening? Redford My! You've grown into quite the beauty! I can see why our Prince Henry is taking such a liking to you. He has excellent taste. You look simply dazzling Princess Finé. Finé As usual, you are skilled in flattery. Do you, Load Redford? Redford His Highness received your letter. I believe he was moved by the passion in your words. Tell me, how was your father doing? Finé There's no need to worry about him. He's recovering steadily, better each day. Redford Ah! I've received information saying that Archduke was weaken, bedridden. But that seems it would been nothing but my mistake. How very excellent to hear. I was concerned. Finé Well now, you know the truth. Redford Hmm...You will be an equitable leader, Princess. Finé I am truly honored by your compliment, Sir. Redford Come. Let's sit. The singer continued singing on the stage. Redford Now then, it pains me greatly to say this, but it would be very difficult to send out troops on another mainland expedition like the one you petitioning for. As you surely know, we suffered heavy losses during the last military retreat. Finé I see...You once tried to accord our country's Einberger Corporation. I believe you wanted them moved to Britannia, right? Redford Well, yes. As manufacturer, their precision machinery, their work was really appealing to us. Of course, we were refused to move their business, betray Eylstadt, or the Archduke who helped them succeed. Finé Yes, the men, they are very patriotic. Can you imagine how thankful they would be if they learn Britannia had done its best to aid Eylstadt in these dark times? I believe they'd be eager to repay you in anyway possible. Redford Ahh...Interesting. That would be a very appealing situation. But if you'll, it's not enough to convince with parliament and public to lend you our aid. Finé I know. Prince Henry is heir to the throne. What if Eylstadt meant something to him? What if it were a place that he wanted to protect? Redford Hmm...? Finé Wouldn't your nation be willing to send troops to the continent if it were the homeland of Prince Henry's new wife? Redford Do you mean...? Finé I declined his proposal once before. But things' change. I would like to formally accept Prince Henry's offer of marriage. Redford You would give up your claim to the throne?! Finé My cousin, Leonora, is currently with child. I will entrust the future of our family to them. Redford Oh...er...You're truly a natural born diplomat and negotiator, Princess. Someone knocked the door. Redford Hmm? A waiter entered into the room, brought a piece of folded paper on his tray. After the short bow to Finé, he offered the paper to Redford. Waiter Sir, a message. Redford Thank you. Immediately he glanced the content of it, Redford gulped, drew astonishment on his face. Redford ...My dear, your willingness to sacrifice yourself for your country has moved me...as has your persistence. And, that makes this all the more upsetting. No matter what condition you prepared to warfare, we can't help you moving forward. Finé Why not?! Redford Because, this is no longer an issue of preemptive defense. Finé ...! Redford Germania has broken through the Eylstadt borders. The invasion has began, and your country can no longer hold the enemy forces back. While the singer was emitting the highest pitch of her voice on the stage, the scene showed Germanian bombers dropping their bombs onto the Eylstadt's guards who were protecting it's borders. The tanks invading the country's soil. Several Germanian soldiers sneaked into the opera house, approaching the room where Finé and Redford were. Singer Verstoßen sei auf ewig... Hermann, waiting at right out of the door of the room, noticed intruders and tuned to them. The Germanian soldier shot twice at Hermann, make him fell down on the corridor. Hermann Huh! ...Ugh, ahh... Germanian soldiers barged into the box. Finé Ah?! ...So, is this your doing? Redford Of course, not. ...Though, I don't expect you to believe me, given the circumstances. Germanian Soldier B I assure you this Britannian dog is innocent. Finé ... Germanian Soldier B The Great Germanian Empire spy network is simply unmatched when it comes to tracking people down. Hmm... You're as beautiful as they said you were. Good news for you, the Emperor will be pleased. Finé And what do you intent to do with me? Germanian Soldier B For starters, well, we'll show you Eylstadt's new capitol, Neu-Berlin. We have a plain waiting for you on the runway. An airplane was flying over the peripheral of alpine mountain range. Finé was sitting still on the plane, two Germanian officers were sitting next on both sides of her seat. Another Germanian officer, seemed he was the highest rank in the room, was examining his golden pistol in his hand. Germanian Soldier B You're likely used to fancier transportation than this, but it's a short flight. ...Something pick your interest? This cargo plain is full of important military secrets. Actually, I guess that includes you, too. Finé shortly glanced to the apparatus, once she had saw on the train to Albringen, but she soon turned her face away from the officer when he tried to talk to her. Finé Hmph. Germanian Soldier B Sorry we couldn't provide you with a first class cabin. Then, a sound like someone inhaling heard secretly from the apparatus. Shards of lights began gathering around the plane. No one in the cargo plane yet noticed those change. Germanian Soldier B Do you smell your homeland in the air? We should be crossing the Eylstadt border right about now. Finé ...How are all my soldiers doing? Germanian Soldier B Oh? They're still trying to put up a useless fight against us. But, it's only a matter of time before they accept defeat. Finé You're wrong. Our citizens are quite tenacious. You'll find that they don't give up easily. Germanian Soldier B Yes, perhaps you're right about that. But if they continue with their resistance, they'll have to watch their beloved princess perished in the public execution. Finé ... Finé glared at the officer. Germanian Soldier B I bet they'd reconsider their fight if your life hang in the balance, wouldn't they? Finé You can't use me to blackmail the people of my country! Germanian Solder B I'm just thinking out loud here. It's all hypothetical. After all, you're the Princess of Eylstadt. And beautiful young lady. There are plenty of other ways we could use you...Many, many other ways. Suddenly, the plane, surrounded by light particles, stopped all of its propellers, began falling. Finé Eek! Germanian Soldier B Ah?! Due to the free fall, the inner of the cargo plane looks like there's no gravity. Finé seized the moment and tackle to the officer. The officer dropped his pistol. Germanian Soldier B Ugh! Finé snatched the pistol, tried to threaten Germanian soldiers to be under her control. However, she couldn't unlock its safety lock smoothly. Germanian Soldier C Drop it! Finé Agh! The soldier shot his gun. The shot hit her right arm and made her drop the pistol. Germanian Soldier B ...Well now, you are quite the revel. But you're also a bird in a cage. If you disobey, I'll snap your neck without a second thought! Finé Do it then! Germanian Soldier B Although you choose to die, is that what the Princess who carries the burden of her people should do? Finé suddenly softened her attitude, began speaking. Finé ...It's true I'm kept alive by my people's faith in me. I only exist because of their deep love and loyalty. If they had picked their guns, and risking their lives in battle for saving our country and its future... In the apparatus, a girl woke up. She acknowledged someone's voice outside its window. Izetta ...Uh...huh...That voice...it's...? Finé Then, I shall fight alone with them. No matter what. Until the last drop of my blood is shed. For the sake of my family's honor! My name is Finé! First Princess of Eylstadt and its next Archduchess! Otofiné Fredericka von Eylstadt stands before you! The girl in the capsule remembered the scene a long years ago, a woman standing before her once done about the same thing. In the scene, the woman, then also a girl had a large wound on her right side. The girl awakened. The apparatus shackled her body burst opened. Light stormed out of her. She raised her body. Izetta Princess...it's you. Finé also remembered who the girl is, surrounded by the light, her red hair. Finé Impossible! You can't be...Izetta?! ...Am I...seeing things...? Er...is...my white witch here... Finé lost her consciousness because of hemorrhage. Izetta got panicked when she saw the wound on Finé's right arm. Izetta Eh...?! Princess! With her power, Izetta demolished the rear half of the airplane, along with Germanian soldiers, into pieces. Finé, too, was thrown away into the air. Izetta grabbed an anti-tank rifle floating nearby her, imbued her magic into it. She used it as her flying tool instead of a bloom, chased falling Finé, dodging debris which were once parts of the airplane. Izetta Princess! Finé opened her eyes. Izetta tried her movement to adjust Finé's falling speed, reached her right hand toward Finé. Izetta Your hand! Perhaps, since she's just recovered from unconsciousness, Finé's torpid face seemed she did not grasp the situation at all. Anyway, she raised her left arm, not wounded one, towards Izetta. When Izetta somehow managed to grab Finé's hand, pulled her body to save her from crushing onto the ground, Finé quietly smiled to Izetta. Finé Izetta... Izetta You're gonna be okay! ...Princess! Though being half unconscious due to the wound, Finé looked purely glad to meet Izetta again. Izetta burst into crying while she carried Finé with her flying rifle, toward mountain range surrounding before them. [End of the episode] Trailer Finé Next time, "Scars and Gunfire." Izetta Princess! Won't you become my hope? A little girl and a dog were running in a forest. Sunlight were filtering through leaves. Finé Hey! You're doing great, Dorothée! I''m gonna bet you can beat the cabin! Dorothée Bow! Finé Ha ha ha...Huh? The girl, Finé, noticed some lights, firefly-like objects flew in the air. She stopped to see where they are going. The dog stopped, and turned to the girl, wondering. Dorothée Huf huf...Wow? Finé Dorothée...those lights... Dorothée Wow! Finé er...huh?! The other lights came again, went through nearby her. The girl decided to chase those lights. The number of the lights increased while she followed, they seemed to be gathered at some point. The girl heard someone singing song at the end of the forest. Finé I know. http //www.globalsecurity.org/org/news/2006/061013-dime-bombs.htm Aljazeera.Net October 13, 2006 Israel accused of using Dime bombs A team of Italian journalists investigating Israeli weapons is claiming that an experimental weapon has been used against the Palestinians in recent months. In-Depth Coverage The weapon is believed to have caused more than 300 serious injuries leading to 62 amputations and 200 deaths between the months of June and July, doctors told Aljazeera. It is widely believed the weapon is similar to the one tested by the US military and called Dime (Dense Inert Metal Explosive). It causes a powerful blast within a small radius. Haaretz newspaper reported that the evidence in the Rai24 news investigation was based on witness accounts from doctors in the Gaza Strip, as well as tests carried out in an Italian laboratory. "The investigative team is the same one that exposed the use by US forces in Iraq of phosphorous bombs, against Iraqi rebels in Falluja," the Haaretz newspaper reported. Yitzhak Ben-Israel, major-general in the Israel air force, formerly head of the army s weapons-development programme, was also quoted in Haaretz as telling the Italian journalists "One of the ideas [behind the weapon] is to allow those targeted to be hit without causing damage to bystanders or other persons." Hospital reports The investigation follows reports by Gaza-based doctors of inexplicably serious injuries. Juma Saqa, of Shifa hospital, told Aljazeera that doctors found small entry wounds on the bodies of the wounded and the dead. According to Saqa, a powder was found on the victims bodies and in their internal organs. "The powder was like microscopic shrapnel, and these are what likely caused the injuries," he said. Habas al-Wahid, head of the emergency room at the Shuhada al-Aqsa hospital, told reporters that the legs of the injured were sliced from their bodies "as if a saw was used to cut through the bone". Testing phase The Dime is said to be made of a carbon-fibre casing and filled with tungsten powder and explosives. It is likely to be carcinogenic. According to the website GlobalSecurity.org, the weapon was successfully tested during 2004 and 2005 but is being further developed. According to Haaretz, the Italian reporters sent samples of the particles found in wounds of the injured in the Gaza Strip to a laboratory at the University of Parma. In the report, Carmela Vaccaio, a doctor at University Parma, said she found a very high concentration of carbon and the presence of unusual materials, such as copper, aluminum and tungsten. "These findings could be in line with the hypothesis that the weapon in question is Dime," Vaccaio said in the report. The non-governmental organisation, Physicians for Human Rights, has written to Amir Peretz, Israel s defence minister, asking for an explanation of the injuries to Palestinians.

CHAPTER XXV UP CHAPTER XXVII CHAPTER XXVI The Story Club Is Formed Junior Avonlea found it hard to settle down to humdrum existence again. To Anne in particular things seemed fearfully flat, stale, and unprofitable after the goblet of excitement she had been sipping for weeks. Could she go back to the former quiet pleasures of those faraway days before the concert? At first, as she told Diana, she did not really think she could. "I m positively certain, Diana, that life can never be quite the same again as it was in those olden days," she said mournfully, as if referring to a period of at least fifty years back. "Perhaps after a while I ll get used to it, but I m afraid concerts spoil people for everyday life. I suppose that is why Marilla disapproves of them. Marilla is such a sensible woman. It must be a great deal better to be sensible; but still, I don t believe I d really want to be a sensible person, because they are so unromantic. Mrs. Lynde says there is no danger of my ever being one, but you can never tell. I feel just now that I may grow up to be sensible yet. But perhaps that is only because I m tired. I simply couldn t sleep last night for ever so long. I just lay awake and imagined the concert over and over again. That s one splendid thing about such affairs--it s so lovely to look back to them." Eventually, however, Avonlea school slipped back into its old groove and took up its old interests. To be sure, the concert left traces. Ruby Gillis and Emma White, who had quarreled over a point of precedence in their platform seats, no longer sat at the same desk, and a promising friendship of three years was broken up. Josie Pye and Julia Bell did not "speak" for three months, because Josie Pye had told Bessie Wright that Julia Bell s bow when she got up to recite made her think of a chicken jerking its head, and Bessie told Julia. None of the Sloanes would have any dealings with the Bells, because the Bells had declared that the Sloanes had too much to do in the program, and the Sloanes had retorted that the Bells were not capable of doing the little they had to do properly. Finally, Charlie Sloane fought Moody Spurgeon MacPherson, because Moody Spurgeon had said that Anne Shirley put on airs about her recitations, and Moody Spurgeon was "licked"; consequently Moody Spurgeon s sister, Ella May, would not "speak" to Anne Shirley all the rest of the winter. With the exception of these trifling frictions, work in Miss Stacy s little kingdom went on with regularity and smoothness. The winter weeks slipped by. It was an unusually mild winter, with so little snow that Anne and Diana could go to school nearly every day by way of the Birch Path. On Anne s birthday they were tripping lightly down it, keeping eyes and ears alert amid all their chatter, for Miss Stacy had told them that they must soon write a composition on "A Winter s Walk in the Woods," and it behooved them to be observant. "Just think, Diana, I m thirteen years old today," remarked Anne in an awed voice. "I can scarcely realize that I m in my teens. When I woke this morning it seemed to me that everything must be different. You ve been thirteen for a month, so I suppose it doesn t seem such a novelty to you as it does to me. It makes life seem so much more interesting. In two more years I ll be really grown up. It s a great comfort to think that I ll be able to use big words then without being laughed at." "Ruby Gillis says she means to have a beau as soon as she s fifteen," said Diana. "Ruby Gillis thinks of nothing but beaus," said Anne disdainfully. "She s actually delighted when anyone writes her name up in a take-notice for all she pretends to be so mad. But I m afraid that is an uncharitable speech. Mrs. Allan says we should never make uncharitable speeches; but they do slip out so often before you think, don t they? I simply can t talk about Josie Pye without making an uncharitable speech, so I never mention her at all. You may have noticed that. I m trying to be as much like Mrs. Allan as I possibly can, for I think she s perfect. Mr. Allan thinks so too. Mrs. Lynde says he just worships the ground she treads on and she doesn t really think it right for a minister to set his affections so much on a mortal being. But then, Diana, even ministers are human and have their besetting sins just like everybody else. I had such an interesting talk with Mrs. Allan about besetting sins last Sunday afternoon. There are just a few things it s proper to talk about on Sundays and that is one of them. My besetting sin is imagining too much and forgetting my duties. I m striving very hard to overcome it and now that I m really thirteen perhaps I ll get on better." "In four more years we ll be able to put our hair up," said Diana. "Alice Bell is only sixteen and she is wearing hers up, but I think that s ridiculous. I shall wait until I m seventeen." "If I had Alice Bell s crooked nose," said Anne decidedly, "I wouldn t--but there! I won t say what I was going to because it was extremely uncharitable. Besides, I was comparing it with my own nose and that s vanity. I m afraid I think too much about my nose ever since I heard that compliment about it long ago. It really is a great comfort to me. Oh, Diana, look, there s a rabbit. That s something to remember for our woods composition. I really think the woods are just as lovely in winter as in summer. They re so white and still, as if they were asleep and dreaming pretty dreams." "I won t mind writing that composition when its time comes," sighed Diana. "I can manage to write about the woods, but the one we re to hand in Monday is terrible. The idea of Miss Stacy telling us to write a story out of our own heads!" "Why, it s as easy as wink," said Anne. "It s easy for you because you have an imagination," retorted Diana, "but what would you do if you had been born without one? I suppose you have your composition all done?" Anne nodded, trying hard not to look virtuously complacent and failing miserably. "I wrote it last Monday evening. It s called `The Jealous Rival; or In Death Not Divided. I read it to Marilla and she said it was stuff and nonsense. Then I read it to Matthew and he said it was fine. That is the kind of critic I like. It s a sad, sweet story. I just cried like a child while I was writing it. It s about two beautiful maidens called Cordelia Montmorency and Geraldine Seymour who lived in the same village and were devotedly attached to each other. Cordelia was a regal brunette with a coronet of midnight hair and duskly flashing eyes. Geraldine was a queenly blonde with hair like spun gold and velvety purple eyes." "I never saw anybody with purple eyes," said Diana dubiously. "Neither did I. I just imagined them. I wanted something out of the common. Geraldine had an alabaster brow too. I ve found out what an alabaster brow is. That is one of the advantages of being thirteen. You know so much more than you did when you were only twelve." "Well, what became of Cordelia and Geraldine?" asked Diana, who was beginning to feel rather interested in their fate. "They grew in beauty side by side until they were sixteen. Then Bertram DeVere came to their native village and fell in love with the fair Geraldine. He saved her life when her horse ran away with her in a carriage, and she fainted in his arms and he carried her home three miles; because, you understand, the carriage was all smashed up. I found it rather hard to imagine the proposal because I had no experience to go by. I asked Ruby Gillis if she knew anything about how men proposed because I thought she d likely be an authority on the subject, having so many sisters married. Ruby told me she was hid in the hall pantry when Malcolm Andres proposed to her sister Susan. She said Malcolm told Susan that his dad had given him the farm in his own name and then said, `What do you say, darling pet, if we get hitched this fall? And Susan said, `Yes--no--I don t know--let me see --and there they were, engaged as quick as that. But I didn t think that sort of a proposal was a very romantic one, so in the end I had to imagine it out as well as I could. I made it very flowery and poetical and Bertram went on his knees, although Ruby Gillis says it isn t done nowadays. Geraldine accepted him in a speech a page long. I can tell you I took a lot of trouble with that speech. I rewrote it five times and I look upon it as my masterpiece. Bertram gave her a diamond ring and a ruby necklace and told her they would go to Europe for a wedding tour, for he was immensely wealthy. But then, alas, shadows began to darken over their path. Cordelia was secretly in love with Bertram herself and when Geraldine told her about the engagement she was simply furious, especially when she saw the necklace and the diamond ring. All her affection for Geraldine turned to bitter hate and she vowed that she should never marry Bertram. But she pretended to be Geraldine s friend the same as ever. One evening they were standing on the bridge over a rushing turbulent stream and Cordelia, thinking they were alone, pushed Geraldine over the brink with a wild, mocking, `Ha, ha, ha. But Bertram saw it all and he at once plunged into the current, exclaiming, `I will save thee, my peerless Geraldine. But alas, he had forgotten he couldn t swim, and they were both drowned, clasped in each other s arms. Their bodies were washed ashore soon afterwards. They were buried in the one grave and their funeral was most imposing, Diana. It s so much more romantic to end a story up with a funeral than a wedding. As for Cordelia, she went insane with remorse and was shut up in a lunatic asylum. I thought that was a poetical retribution for her crime." "How perfectly lovely!" sighed Diana, who belonged to Matthew s school of critics. "I don t see how you can make up such thrilling things out of your own head, Anne. I wish my imagination was as good as yours." "It would be if you d only cultivate it," said Anne cheeringly. "I ve just thought of a plan, Diana. Let you and me have a story club all our own and write stories for practice. I ll help you along until you can do them by yourself. You ought to cultivate your imagination, you know. Miss Stacy says so. Only we must take the right way. I told her about the Haunted Wood, but she said we went the wrong way about it in that." This was how the story club came into existence. It was limited to Diana and Anne at first, but soon it was extended to include Jane Andrews and Ruby Gillis and one or two others who felt that their imaginations needed cultivating. No boys were allowed in it--although Ruby Gillis opined that their admission would make it more exciting--and each member had to produce one story a week. "It s extremely interesting," Anne told Marilla. "Each girl has to read her story out loud and then we talk it over. We are going to keep them all sacredly and have them to read to our descendants. We each write under a nom-de-plume. Mine is Rosamond Montmorency. All the girls do pretty well. Ruby Gillis is rather sentimental. She puts too much lovemaking into her stories and you know too much is worse than too little. Jane never puts any because she says it makes her feel so silly when she had to read it out loud. Jane s stories are extremely sensible. Then Diana puts too many murders into hers. She says most of the time she doesn t know what to do with the people so she kills them off to get rid of them. I mostly always have to tell them what to write about, but that isn t hard for I ve millions of ideas." "I think this story-writing business is the foolishest yet," scoffed Marilla. "You ll get a pack of nonsense into your heads and waste time that should be put on your lessons. Reading stories is bad enough but writing them is worse." "But we re so careful to put a moral into them all, Marilla," explained Anne. "I insist upon that. All the good people are rewarded and all the bad ones are suitably punished. I m sure that must have a wholesome effect. The moral is the great thing. Mr. Allan says so. I read one of my stories to him and Mrs. Allan and they both agreed that the moral was excellent. Only they laughed in the wrong places. I like it better when people cry. Jane and Ruby almost always cry when I come to the pathetic parts. Diana wrote her Aunt Josephine about our club and her Aunt Josephine wrote back that we were to send her some of our stories. So we copied out four of our very best and sent them. Miss Josephine Barry wrote back that she had never read anything so amusing in her life. That kind of puzzled us because the stories were all very pathetic and almost everybody died. But I m glad Miss Barry liked them. It shows our club is doing some good in the world. Mrs. Allan says that ought to be our object in everything. I do really try to make it my object but I forget so often when I m having fun. I hope I shall be a little like Mrs. Allan when I grow up. Do you think there is any prospect of it, Marilla?" "I shouldn t say there was a great deal" was Marilla s encouraging answer. "I m sure Mrs. Allan was never such a silly, forgetful little girl as you are." "No; but she wasn t always so good as she is now either," said Anne seriously. "She told me so herself--that is, she said she was a dreadful mischief when she was a girl and was always getting into scrapes. I felt so encouraged when I heard that. Is it very wicked of me, Marilla, to feel encouraged when I hear that other people have been bad and mischievous? Mrs. Lynde says it is. Mrs. Lynde says she always feels shocked when she hears of anyone ever having been naughty, no matter how small they were. Mrs. Lynde says she once heard a minister confess that when he was a boy he stole a strawberry tart out of his aunt s pantry and she never had any respect for that minister again. Now, I wouldn t have felt that way. I d have thought that it was real noble of him to confess it, and I d have thought what an encouraging thing it would be for small boys nowadays who do naughty things and are sorry for them to know that perhaps they may grow up to be ministers in spite of it. That s how I d feel, Marilla." "The way I feel at present, Anne," said Marilla, "is that it s high time you had those dishes washed. You ve taken half an hour longer than you should with all your chattering. Learn to work first and talk afterwards."
